I was lambasted and pasted against the wall the other day by my dad and mother-in-law. And guess who the culprit was? Yes, you guessed right! My five-year old, Neha! I can see it coming. She is gonna get me into a lot of trouble. Yup, I am gearing myself for it.
Can u imagine what she came up with this time? Just when we were recovering from some crazy rash, apparently a viral infection that showed up in her body as rashes.
We were visiting my in-laws and went to check in on an uncle who stays nearby. This uncle’s neighbor has a German Shepherd! Neha perched herself on the wall with the help of a tap and began teasing the dog with plastic fruits! As she was going in and out, I told her not to tease the dog. She must have thought: Here goes mom, blabbering again!
Then she hunted for something to give the dog and zeroed in on carrots and tomatoes. The dog must have been pissed with all the teasing and then the crappy stuff that Neha decided to feed him. Anyways, he did not want to be teased, I guess, so when she offered him the carrot, he became aggressive and it resulted in a bite. Fortunately, it was not too bad. The skin above her thumb got grazed by his teeth. It bled too.
Though I was shocked, I could not afford to show it. I could not afford to sit on it either. The doctor suggested ant-rabies vaccines for 3 days. Poor kid! She has been brave through it all. The dose was administered on her butt. Yesterday when I called her to come and get the shot, she made a run for it. Four kids and I had to chase her around for a couple of minutes. When I managed to catch her, she said, “But mamma, I have only two bums! Where is the doctor going to give it today?”
Getting back to where I started, my dad gave me a lecture on how careless I was and how I should keep a more careful eye on her. That I allow her too much freedom to explore and get hurt in the process. I tried real hard to explain that I was not careless at all. That I watch her with four eyes!
Now my M-I-L had another take on it. She says that I am just too careful and am breathing down the kid’s neck all the time. That I should allow her some freedom to explore. Then she would be getting into all this if I gave her some space, blah, blah. Again, I tried real hard to explain to her that I do allow Neha her freedom.
It got me thinking. What the heck? I cannot do anything without getting the raw deal. I have to really come up with some innovative ways to get the kid to live her life and not get hurt. Ok, this is where my head beings to hurt and all seems fuzzy! But on my part, I have decided to build up a collection of books on emergency medical aid and by-heart it. I have already saved her life twice already. First when she swallowed two watch cells. And the second time, when she swallowed two five rupee coins. You may discount the countless other times when she attempted dangerous stuff. Let me remind you at this point, that she is only 5.

Bravo Neha - for taking the 3 shots on your bum without much fuss, as a normal 5 year old would do ! (I was witness to it)
LOL Bins. Don't you worry too much. You're doing a perfect job of raising your Neha !!! Sometimes, things happen which cannot be predicted before.
All the very best to prepare yourself in all the first aid methods available on earth !!!!
Wow, that was quick! I will need your help. Once I finish, you can check my general knowledge. :D
Oh Bins, I just know that I would love Neha to bits. I just love kids who are active and adventurous!
I'm sure you're a great mom Bins :-)))
Oh my! even though you made it all funny but still poor Nehu. &*(%#* @ that Dog.
Aww...she only has 2 cute bums. Where will Doc poke her after 2 days?
{{{Hugs}}} to Nehu and also to the mommy from another 5-er's mom.
Heyy, it must be difficult running around the lil one...I know Neha is v active and is def an adventurous kid but I am 100% sure u r a GREAT MUM and will continue to be one.
I think u r doing a great job and forget about what others say...ppl will always have something or the other to comment. :) (its easy to do so, isn’t it?? ) :)
I have seen u with Neha...you give her enough freedom and at the same time, you are very careful (:) yep, watching her with four eyes).
JUST BE THE SAME DEAR…
Love u all…xxx
Oh my gosh...when did this happen????
Poor Neha.....I'm terrified just thinking abt those injection.
Awfully brave, she is. Takes everything in her stride:-)).
Actually I cant imagine u were careless here b'coz I knw 1st-hand how careful u usually are.
I still get the shivers when I think abt that tissue incident.
@the rest of u.....
arnd 3 yrs back Bins & Neha visited us...
One night Bins knocks on our bedroom door & asks for tweezers. We hurriedly find 1 & rush to their bedroom....Bins then carefully fishes out bits & bits of tissue paper out of Neha's nose.
Seems like Bins had switched off the lights to sleep & after 20 mins Neha says she cant breathe. So she switches on the light & finds out tht Neha had stuffed bits of tissue paper into her nose.
:-D
Now its an incident which we laughingly relate to prove how dangerous Neha is but at tht time I cdn't stop shaking for atleast 30 mins after the incident.
Agnes: Yeah Neha is great fun to be around with. There is not a dull moment with her. But I have to be on the vigil. U just can never say what she can do & when.
Solilo: Really. She is just too cute. And needless to say, it definitely is NOT funny when I am going thru it.
Divya: Hey, welcome back. I hope u had a good vacation in Wales. BTW, it happened at your place. Vishnu bit her. :D
Relections: This happened on Sunday. Seriously that tissue incident was really scary. To think that she was only a year and half then. I still shake when I recall that incident.
I just love what I hear of her!!! You must be doing a wonderful job if she has turned out like this.
Children have to have a creative side to them and from the looks of it you are careful enough too... She would not be able to explore if you were too careful!
As soon as you said, she perched herself on the wall with the help of a tap...I understood that it was Vishnu... :( Silly dog.
Stuffing tissues???!!! Oh my God, that must have been scary.
Hope Neha is feeling better now and is ready for more adventures. ;)
On a different note, holiday was great. Wales is beautiful. :)
First off, I hope Neha's better and the Bum is less sore!
Now, Beans, you know that as a mother you're going to have to deal with a lot of issues when it comes to your kids. The fact that you didn't have a melt down and dealt with the problem says a lot. As for breathing down Neha's neck or not watching her too carefully...well you can only do so much! and you'll always do what is right for your child. Have another one...the fun just quadruples!! Can you imagine how much fun I'm having with my 3...wouldn't change it for the world!! I'll tell u stories that could put some into cardiac arrest!!
Colours: Yup, she is as creative as they come.
Gauri S: Thanks for visiting. Lucky u. 3 girls must be really fab. After we spoke, u have been on my mind so often. I hope we can meet soon.
oooh... that part about having only 2 bums was too cute for words! :D She'll be just fine! I think you must be a great mom to be able to give her so much freedom.I think I might have become one of the breathing down the neck kind if my daughter had been this adventurous. But mine is extra careful because she is terribly scared of getting hurt and even more terrified of shots! So I usually have to force her to being more adventurous! Don't worry about advice from others. I KNOW for a fact that no one knows better how to handle a kid than the mother!
But mamma, I have only two bums! Where is the doctor going to give it today?
this was a good one.
But giving freedom and keeping them safe is like too sides of the same coin. One has to be careful enough to reprimand them ,lest they get into a soup like a dog .these are small things but they may go out of hand in a flash
Wannabe: They say the grass is always greener on the other side. Why are u not posting? Is it the summer that is getting to you? :D It is getting to me!
Stalag Sukhoi : Welcome back. You take real long breaks. :D I think I am balancing it out pretty well. Well God had been kind by giving me FOUR eyes! I better do a good job! Heee Heee!
Bins, you met Nancy? Can you send me a picture of her?
(Oh, Nancy, your comment made my day. I feel one step closer to finally getting that pic...)
Agnes: After I read your comment, I could just not stop laughing!!!
Ok. I will let in you in on a little info: Nancy is my Sister-in-law!
And another info: she will totally kill me if I do that.
I was just talking to her about this the other day. She likes to keep the suspense n all. When it comes to such things, she is totally wicked! :D
(Nans: I hope I painted a good pic of you!)
Bins, she doesn't have to know... I promise, I'll keep my mouth shut.
:-)
@ Agnes LOL.....
another info...
u'll have more success if u directly approach my husband.
Bins & me...we are thick as theives;-D
Oh my, i laughed my sides off literally, i have a 4 yr old and i can imagine.....
"When I managed to catch her, she said, “But mamma, I have only two bums! Where is the doctor going to give it today?” - this was way too funny! he heeeeheee
